Item Description
As w/most examples of this 1" celluloid button, the cream bkg. has numerous areas of darkening. Importantly, after exposure to light this one glows w/deep intensity, superior to most, and clearly shows at its center the black silhouetted image of The Shadow in hat and cape w/his gun drawn below "The Shadow" name. Front remains very glossy. Trace of aging to metal back. VG. Scarce. Button was issued in 1939 and comes w/single-sided 2.5x4" membership card titled "The Secret Pledge Of The Shadow." The card pledge was to "Stamp Out The Forces Of Evil In This Land. I Shall Recognize Other Members Of The Shadow Society By This Card And By The Magic Button Which Only Member's May Possess." Although not marked as such, we believe this was a Blue Coal premium. Horizontal crease through center w/trace of wear from button collet and pin. Unused and Fine. Card is very rare w/only a few known examples, this being the first we've offered in decades.
