Item Description
This high quality marionette comes in its original box and was made in 1933 by Hestwood Marionette Studio of Glendale California and sold exclusively at Bullock's Wilshire Department Store in Los Angeles. Box is 5.5x12x3.5" deep. Complete with the original but generic fabric bag with drawstring that the marionette was to be placed in when stored in the box. Box features great images of Mickey, Minnie and Pluto on lid and all sides. Box has restoration to the lid and all 4 illustrated sides of the box bottom nicely done but evident. Lid also has top side panel replaced but painted in matching red color. Box overall remains structurally sound and still displays nicely. 12" tall marionette has wood/composition body with felt ears, velveteen pants with mother-of-pearl buttons, stuffed velveteen arms. Complete with long string tail. Wood controller unit attached by original strings. Paper label under one foot has edge flakes but nearly all text remains. Compo shoes have tiny traces of paint wear around extreme edges. Back of head has a 2" craze line with tiny paint flakes but these defects are very minor and do not take away from its overall appearance which remains totally bright and clean, composition parts remain glossy. VF. See matching Minnie Mouse and Pluto marionettes #1642-43. From the Gary Selmonsky Collection.
