Item Description
Original 12.5x13" stiff paper print by Sendak commissioned as an official greeting to welcome in the Clinton era, the picture also was published in major national newspapers, sent selectively to leading bookshop clients who promote HarperCollins titles, and given out as keepsake souvenir at one of the Washington DC inaugural parties. None of those prints were signed. This is Mr. Sendak's only political image in print, w/portraits of the First Family, and their cat Socks, along w/characters from Sendak's famous books: Moishe from Where The Wild Things Are, Mickey from In The Night Kitchen, Jennie from Higglety Pigglety Pop!- and many characters from We Are All In The Dumps With Jack And Guy issued later in 1993. No copies were ever available for commercial sale. An estimated 500-1000 were printed but only about 50 were sent to Sendak for an exclusive signing. Sendak has signed in black ink above text that reads "A Jubilant Welcome For Our New President And His Family! From The Children Of America, Maurice Sendak, And HarperCollins Publishers- January 20, 1993." NM. Very limited signed edition. Comes w/Hake's COA.
