Item Description
12.5" tall overall w/great likeness of Esther Williams, who set multiple national/regional swimming records as part of the Los Angeles Athletic Club swim team. Unable to compete in the 1940 Summer Olympics due to the outbreak of World War II, she joined Billy Rose's Aquacade, where she spent five months swimming alongside Olympic gold medal winner and Tarzan star, Johnny Weissmuller. While working at the Aquacade, Williams caught the attention of MGM scouts going on to play bit parts before starring in a series of films in the 1940s and early 1950s known as "aquamusicals," which featured elaborate performances w/synchronized swimming/diving. Statue depicts Williams in her bathing suit, which features dark sparkle accents (which also appear in her hair). Exc. Eric Renner Collection  and the example shown on page 240 of his book "American Disguise."
