Item Description
First is 7/8" with lightly aged back paper from 1898 naming the Chicago office of W&H. Some tiny age spots by the reverse collet but front of the button is essentially Mint. Pictured are young twin boys promoting "Gold Dust Washing Powder." Next is 1.25" without back paper but with 1899 "Phelps" patent stamped into the metal collet. Front shows black man seated upon a stack of cartons with text promoting "Gilletts Lye/Eats Dirt." Cello is NM displaying Mint. Two of the earliest buttons featuring black Americans endorsing consumer products.
