Item Description
Inspired by the success of the American "Superman" radio program, Australia set about creating their own Superman radio series, starring Leonard Teale as the Man of Steel. Since TV wasn't a regular form of entertainment in Australia until the late 1950s, radio remained a hugely popular form of home entertainment. The Australian radio show aired May 30, 1949 to May 20, 1954 and Nov. 1, 1954 to Aug. 28, 1958. Offered here is a 15.75" dia. black vinyl disc for Australian Episodes 700 and 701. Disc shows some lt. wear and is VF. The American radio program began Feb. 1940 as a three-times-a-week radio serial and was discontinued in Mar. 1942. Show was revived due to fan demand in Aug. 1942 and continued until Feb. 1949. This transcription disc dates to 1956 as paper label has dated inkstamp on each side. Artransa Pty. Ltd of Sydney, Australia name appears on label as they produced the disc, which was recorded by Broadcasting Station 2GB Pty. Ltd. Comes w/original sleeve. An esoteric item for the Superman collector. Franco Toscanini Collection.
