Item Description
2-3/8x5.5". Unlisted in Sullivan/Fischer and Hake. Ornate design featuring a large rectangular frame of vines w/an oval woodcut portrait at center. Text reads "McClellan And Pendleton The Union And The Constitution." A small eagle w/arrows and olive branch complete the design at bottom center. This woodcut portrait was used on other 1864 ribbons but this is the first we've encountered w/the gradated background. A .75" horizontal split in the field at top that does not affect the design and a light diagonal fold going through the top of the portrait background. Extremely Fine. Sullivan/Fischer list only five McClellan ribbons in their seminal text and we are aware of two other unlisted varieties. This piece was consigned by a person who found it at the grassroots level in use as a bookmark. A special opportunity to obtain a truly rare campaign artifact that is fresh to the market.
