Item Description
Group begins with rare premium from Horlick's Malted Milk which sponsored one of the earliest radio adventure programs in 1932 titled Horlick's Trail Blazers. We once had a letter sent to a charter member along with a certificate dated 1932 and the letter was promoting the show over station WGN Racine, Wisconsin. The text mentioned a bronze medal and described how to obtain it for either a seal or wrapper from Horlick's Chocolate Malted Milk products. This bronze medal was titled the member's Badge Of Honor. This is the premium referenced in that paperwork consisting of a soft brown leather pouch 2.5x4" with a tan drawstring. On the front is a detailed image of a strange bird with gigantic beak and with text beneath "The Devil Bird." Light general wear on the pouch but Fine. Within is a flat, quite heavy 2" diameter piece of metal with muted copper luster. Pictured within the jagged accent line is a very strange creature with bat-like ears and a pair of fang teeth. His arms hold a device with a sunburst design on the upper end while the shaft has three extending square designs each with a tiny image and one of these is a replica of the Devil Bird appearing on the pouch front. Lightly scratched on the blank reverse by the original owner are the words "Good Luck." Other than the owners marking the piece is essentially Mint as issued. Only the second example we've seen. Second premium in this lot is a 1-1/8" brass token showing "Monk" on the front whose portrait has some resemblance to a fierce gorilla. Front also reads "Sierra Pictures Hollywood & New York." Reverse reads "Vanishing Millions/Fifteen Episode Super-Serial." We saw one other example naming a theater on the back with 1926 date however on this example are five names: "William Fairbanks, Vivian Rich, Alec B. Francis, Sheldon Lewis, Bull Montana." A rare movie premium. Exc. Ted Watts Collection.
