Item Description
9-1/8x12". 1920-1921. Front features large portrait of Debs w/text "Help!/Prison Bolts And Bars Can Not Confine Thee, Nor Whip Thy Noble Spirit Tame!" Reverse has Debs quote at bottom and image of "The Prison Gate" at left center. Interior has four images (three of Debs and one of the prison interior) w/various pleas for his release and a form to solicit donations. Cleveland, OH address for "All Remittances Payable" matches the one on "Communist Labor Party" stamp at bottom right. The CLP was formed as a result of a three way split in the Socialist Party in 1919. It is unusual to see their stamp as they conducted the majority of their business in secret following the 1920 Palmer Raids. Two horizontal folds as issued. Bottom left corner has two diagonal folds and a less than .25" hole. When viewing reverse side there is light toning along the right hand side and in the bottom third panel. VF.
