Item Description
Large format 11.5x16.5" with 12 interior b/w pages plus bright yellow cover dated September 1, 1898. This is 17 days after Roosevelt and his Rough Riders arrived on Long Island August 14, 1898 and only 19 days after the US/Spain signed a cease fire agreement August 12, 1898. The magazine is filled with short news articles, fiction stories and many illustrated advertisements for food, clothing, and cleaning products many of which were being promoted on pin-back buttons of the era: i.e. Wool Soap, Worcester Salt, Quaker Oats, etc. The only TR interior content is inside front cover, top left, 21 line paragraph under the title "Chief Of The Rough Riders" The paragraph is a brief summary of TR's accomplishments to that point. Cover has 4" hairline spine split (not repaired) at top. 4" down from top, the split goes from spine edge inward 2.5" as a hairline tear which is repaired with archival tape on the interior and barely visible. Magazine has light center fold, perhaps as originally mailed in a wrapper. Overall, exceptionally bright and clean condition. Only tiny age traces. Rare and VF.
