10.75x29.25x6" deep painted wood (red w/black corners) hinged-lid box contains 1931 Erector set No. 8-1/2 by A.C. Gilbert Co. Lid features worn "The New Erector" decal. Underside of lid features wonderful full color illustrated label showing "The World Champion No. 8-1/2 Erector" set that allowed used to build "The Super Locomotive And Tender And 405 Other Fascinating Models." Locomotive has "Erector" name on cab and tender has "New York Central" name. Label has even aging and some rippling w/.75" puncture along upper right margin. Fine/VF. Box has some corner tip wear and scattered paint wear but is o/w Fine/VF overall. Contents are complete and come w/"How To Make 'Em Book - The New Erector" w/"No. 8-1/2" set designation and similar text noting Super Locomotive and Tender as seen on lid label. Cover shows scattered wear w/some creases and small edge tears. Fine/VF. Box has lift-out metal tray that reveals various metal components and hardware including locomotive and tender wheels, struts, axles, boiler/smokestack pieces, etc. This lower level also has separate area sectioned off w/wood to protect piece w/"Erector" decal. Complete w/14 separate "Erector" cardboard boxes of hardware. Set appears unused and shows little wear and is VF overall. Rare and desirable set as boxed and complete. See following item #1109.
