Item Description
1.5" wide 1.5" tall overall plated cast metal figural piece w/great detail. © Rip Off Press, c. early 1970s. Depicts Freewheelin' Franklin Freek, Phineas Phreak and Fat Freddy Freekowtski. This piece is an interesting artifact from counterculture and Underground Comix heyday. Created by Gilbert Shelton, "The Fabulous Furry Freak Brothers" first appeared in comics in "Feds N' Heads," published by Berkeley's Print Mint in 1968. In 1969 Shelton and three friends founded Rip Off Press in San Francisco, CA which took over publication of all subsequent Freak Brothers comics, publishing sporadically from Feb. 1970 through 1997 w/a total of 13 issues. The "Brothers" raised arms provide a perfect perch for user's cigarette of choice. Exc. Rare.
