Item Description
This early 1900s novelty item is 2-3/8" tall with a vertical stickpin soldered to a flat silvered brass reverse. Front of the piece is in very high relief and the man has noticeably curly hair. The openings for the eyes and mouth are cut out and on the interior are small metal parts, with a touch of black and white paint still remaining on the eyes and with a small elongated metal tab that serves as the tongue. When the piece is moved left or right, the eyes and tongue move along in unison. When the piece is tipped forward or backwards, again in unison, the eyes or tongue either protrude slightly or fall back within the confines of the face. While there is paint missing from the center of each eye, this is not really obvious without magnification. A fascinating early piece with the eyes and tongue producing a rather incredible range of possible movements and 'expressions'. The only example known to us. VF.
