Item Description
16.75x24.75" frame contains Third State example of the notorious "Butcher" cover for The Beatles' 1966 "Yesterday And Today" album (T2553 Mono), the last Beatles album to be created exclusively for the American market by Capitol Records w/o the group's direct consent (the label had reconfigured every one of the Beatle's LPs in America up to that point). The proposed 11-song US-only compilation of singles and leftover UK LP tracks, was graced w/a cover depicting the band wearing butcher smocks and handling raw pieces of meat and surrounded by dismembered dolls, serving to comment on how albums like this seemed to chop up their repertory. Initially, Capitol Records' art department went along w/the cover and approved a print run of the album, but negative reactions from consumers and disc jockeys forced Capitol to replace the original cover w/a new, tamer photo. This new cover was pasted over the original of several covers, and could be removed, revealing the "Butcher" cover as has been done w/the example offered here. As such, the original cover shows obvious wear w/areas of surface paper lifting, mostly along bottom half, as well as some lifts to John Lennon's face. Album cover also has some rippling along right edge w/some small tears and corner tip wear. VG overall and is framed in shadow box style w/NM LP.
