Item Description

Large and impressive 17x25.5x4.75" deep (27-3/8" tall w/separate wooden legs in place) case w/brass carrying handle and latches opens to reveal elaborate Gilbert set issued in 1951. As stated in the 1951 Gilbert Toys catalog, this is a "Super Professional Outfit, Complete With Top Hat (Put Together In Seconds) And Drop Curtain." Contents noted as "Scores Upon Scores Of Tricks; Partial List Includes Topsy Turvy Match, Jumping Peg, Card Tricks, Vanishing Coin, Phantom Card, Galloping Dime, Mind Reading Tricks, Magician's Rhapsody, Ming Toy Laundry Ticket, Vanishing Whiskey Glass, Chinese Rings, Fake Quarter And Many, Many Others." Set also includes five Gilbert manuals - three "Gilbert Mysto Magic, Knots & Splices" and "Handkerchief Tricks." Underside of lid features die-cut cardboard that holds manuals as well as five magic playing cards; one set in devil's face, complete w/bushy mustache and goatee. Set features cardboard insert tray w/a number of the aforementioned trick attached that lifts out of case, revealing magic wand, cardboard tube w/wooden egg and 25 tricks in "Mysto Magic" cardboard boxes (each trick is labeled). Set also comes w/stapled packet of trick instruction sheets and promotional Gilbert sheet as well as inspection/stock slips. Also comes w/12x20" paper poster for promoting your own magic show, styled like the posters of yesteryear. Set appears complete. Case shows lt. wear and is VF while insert tray has some small .25" to .5" tears/crease at die-cut areas. Manuals have some pinch creases to spines, but o/w set appears to have little to no use w/top hat sheet unpunched. VF-Exc. Old store stock. One of the most sought after Mysto Magic sets and certainly one of the most elaborate. Barry Lutsky Collection.
