Item Description
6.5" long silk ribbon w/a 1-7/8x4" cello jugate affixed at center by three tied ribbons. This was likely produced by supporters of Henry Clay Evans attempt at the Vice Presidential nomination in 1896 at the Republican National Convention. Evans was famous for fighting w/fellow Tennessee Republicans including Congressman Walter P. Brownlow. At the 1896 RNC Brownlow, the state's elected delegate to the Republican National committee, befriended McKinley campaign manager Mark Hanna and pushed support away from Evans. Advanced fraying of silk that has been slightly stabilized by older archival tape repairs on reverse. Less than .25" hole affecting the "H" in "Choice." Cello has moderate surface wear most notably a .25" split in top right margin of Evan's portrait. Silk is Fair while cello. remain VG.  A fascinating campaign artifact and the first we recall offering.
