Item Description
Sizes are 5/8" to 1.25". In row 2 the three buttons are lithos. All other buttons are cello covered. These buttons were issued mainly between mid-1941 and December 1944. During the autumn and winter of 1941, Greece was starving. Between starvation and disease, 1500 people were dying daily in Athens and Piraeus alone. Prominent Greek Americans quickly organized the Greek War Relief Association which raised $30M between 1941-44. From their national headquarters at 730 Fifth Avenue, materials like posters, buttons, pamphlets and much more were sent to local committees across America. At local events, flowers and/or buttons were given to people making donations. 16 pieces in all. All Exc. to Mint.
