Item Description
1.25" with W&H back paper. Designed is identical to the previous button although with somewhat less detailing and done in shades of black and white indicating that it was an in-house proofing button. There are some light age marks on the upper cream colored background but none are particularly dark. While this design usually has the imprint of Strawbridge & Clothier it was a design available to others as we've once seen it with the imprint "Toy Town Grand Leader." This is the only example we can recall of what is almost certainly an early W&H in-house proofing button. It came from the estate of the Pittsburgh area W&H salesman who represented the company c. 1910 into the 1930s. Rare and likely unique.
