Item Description
First is a die-cut high relief brass shell German-made pin with the letters "W.H.W." along the bottom edge. These letters represent the German words which translate to "Winter Relief Of The German People." "WHW" was the abbreviated form of the German words and refers to an annual drive by the National Socialist People's Welfare Organization to help finance charitable work. They used the slogan "None Shall Starve Nor Freeze." The drive began in 1931 although later Hitler would claim sole credit. Various pins were issued although this is the first example we've ever been able to offer. The other six celluloid buttons range from 7/8" to 1.25". Four of these are marked Australia with two unmarked and probably Australia or Great Britain. One is dated 1917 and another 1918. The remaining three large ones are c. 1920s-1930s and the last "Biernes For Toys" is c. 1930s-1940s. Light age on the one for "Foy's." Rest are NM to Mint. Many we've never seen before.
