Item Description
Ring was promoted as a contest prize on the cereal box back which showed a cartoon map of Montana. From four clues and an X marking "Gold Mine #3" on the map, kids were supposed to name the town of the mine's location in Montana in order to win the ring. Ring's lower half is a very narrow band of brass luster metal with the band being adjustable. Top of the band is held by a rivet to the underside of a much larger ring top of heavy metal with brass luster. One side of the ring shows what can best be described as an upside-down depiction of the Greek letter Omega. The opposite side of the ring has what appears to be an atomic symbol comprised of seven tiny circles around a central circle. Top of the ring has a very high clear dome of thick plastic. Within the compartment formed by the dome is a .25" diameter gold colored piece of material that seems to be of metal and somewhat more substantial than simply foil. The cereal box stated: $50 REWARD $50/The Honeycomb Kid Will Pay You $50 Reward If The Piece Of Gold Mounted Under The Plastic Dome On The Honeycomb Kid's Ring Does Not Meet With The Specification Of The U.S. Government Assayer's Office, As Geniune 24 Carat Gold". Essentially Mint as issued and only our third example in 50 years.
