Item Description
Presentation case containing 3.75" dia. lead die mold of medallion featuring DC Comics logo w/high relief, full body image of Superman flying across it. This die mold was used to create a series of medallions (see following items #1879-1883) produced in 1985 in recognition of the 50th Anniversary of DC Comics. A run of 50 were produced and 50 comic and related legends noted in the "Fifty Who Made DC Great" publication released in 1985, including Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster, Bob Kane and Bill Finger, Gardner Fox, William Moulton Marston, Kirk Alyn, George Reeves, Curt Swan, Adam West, Lynda Carter and others. While these medallions were struck, not all were distributed as many of those honored had already passed away. Those that were presented were inscribed w/the recipient's name on reverse, w/date and "For Your Contribution To DC Comics" text. Edges have some rippling due to softness of lead, but still VF overall. Die mold is likely a unique piece. The die mold was used to produce these medallions, a 3" dia. heavy brass medallion w/enamel paint accents and a blank-back is offered alongside die mold. NM. Comes w/copy of the publication noted above. Franco Toscanini Collection.
