Item Description
Known as a "cecaelia" this 1.25" button pictures a mythical being with the head, arms and torso representing either  Poseidon the Greek god of the sea or Neptune the Roman god of the sea while the lower torso is formed of large octopus or squid-like tentacles. The creature displays wide open arms, holds a trident in one hand and rim text states "It Pays To Go To Atlantic City/The Ideal Convention Resort". c. 1900 with W&H back paper and spring pin holds rarely seen original blue/white ribbon. These buttons were used at a ceremony during which King Neptune "opened" Atlantic City for the summer season. Neptune also crowned the first Miss America in 1921.  NM displaying Mint. Rare.
