Item Description
4.5" long w/"'U.S. Badge Co J. A. Moon, Pittsburgh'" on the reverse. Listed in Sullivan/Fischer as GC-75A differing from GC-75, that was produced in Britain and labeled "The Pauper Labor Badge" (the cost of labor being significantly cheaper in Britain at the time thus the argument that American business interest could not compete) after its appearance on the cover of the Oct. 6, 1885 issue of "Judge" magazine. Looking to avoid any lingering thoughts of this footnote scandal Cleveland's campaign contracted a US manufacture to produced this 1892 example. Minor discoloration in the background w/a few scattered tan spots w/a slightly more pronounced appearance. Extremely Fine. Retains original tassel. A striking and interesting 1892 artifact. Leon Rowe Collection.
