Item Description
Posters are 19x28" and 25x36.5". Included are: 2-1/8x2-5/8" trigate poster stamp reading "Support The Communist Party Of Germany" w/images of "Dimitroff/Thaelmann/Torgeler" all arrested in 1933 at the time of the Reichstag fire for complicity (vertical fold at center that breaks surface paper and less than .25" loss of surface paper at lower right corner, VG); poster featuring a boxing scene w/German text translating to "Necessity Commands Strike Him Dead!/Workers, Help By Voting Communist" (professionally paper backed some time ago to stabilize scattered edge tears and minor losses, VG) and thin paper poster featuring image by "John Heartfield" signed in print of a young boy eating a piece of bread w/text "Capitalism Is Robbing Them Of Their Last Piece Of Bread/ Fight For Yourself And Your Children/Vote Communist Vote Thaelmann" (one each vertical and horizontal folds, right and left margins trimmed just affecting the "!" at bottom right, tape pulls at corners and along top margin visible only on verso, separations at vertical fold 1" at top and .5" at bottom, a tiny hole at center of junctions and scattered light spots of toning, VG. A fine group of historical ephemera related to the German Communist Party, the political foe of the Nazi Party. Thaelmann called for the violent overthrow of Hitler's power and was arrested by the Gestapo in 1933. He spent 11 years in solitary confinement and was shot on Hitler's orders at the Buchenwald concentration camp.
