Item Description
1.75" with small W&H text on the back paper along with primary text including Los Angeles address and business name "F.O. Graham". Button shows full figure female herald holding an American flag and with other hand holding a large trumpet all backed by a sunburst. For years a battle between this site and one in Santa Monica raged but this button commemorates the day April 26, 1899 when President McKinley pushed a button in Washington, D.C. that signaled a barge 3,000 miles away in San Pedro to dump a load of large boulders into the sea, marking the beginning of the construction of the new port's breakwater. One of only three we know of and NM displaying Mint.
