Item Description
Captain Battle had a brief run as a patriotic comic book hero in the early 1940s, making his first appearance in "Silver Streak Comics" #10 in May, 1941, then appearing in "Captain Battle Comics" from 1941-1943. Readers who promised to uphold the principles of Americanism and the Constitution could join the Captain Battle Boys' Brigade. Offered here is a complete three-piece membership kit (missing only the envelope), consisting of a 1.75" dia. cello "Silver Streak Comics - Captain Battle Boys' Brigade" premium button. One of the rarest, and unusually large, early comic book club member's buttons, this dates from 1941. M. Pudlin Co. Inc. backpaper is evenly aged. Button has full, rich color and remains bright and glossy. High grade, NM example. 8-3/8x10-7/8" typed letter features full figure illustration of Captain Battle at top, noting his appearances in "Silver Streak Comics" and "Captain Battle Comics." Letter noted inclusion of membership badge and card (which has "Aims Of Captain Battle Boys' Brigade" on reverse w/repeat illustration of Captain Battle. Letter goes on to mention getting friends to join the club by mailing 10¢ initiation fee and coupon from comic titles listed at top of letter. Letter notes that upon signing up six additional members, you formed your own Battalion and elect a Battalion Captain. Facsimile "Capt. Battle" signature at bottom. Letter has been folded as mailed and has varying degrees of aging. .5" split at bottom left fold line and two pairs of holes from button w/some staining at this area. VG overall. Also included is even rarer 2.5x3.75" membership card which has been neatly signed in ink on provided line. Card has lt. even aging w/thin streak of moisture staining along top. Card is o/w Exc. Very rare club kit.
