Item Description
16.5x21”, full page ad ran in the St. Louis Post-Dispatch on Thursday, November 2, 1939. Text reads “Boys And Girls – See Superman In Color.” Large image of Superman appears with informational text block stating that Superman would begin running on Sunday in the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. Unusual in design, Superman’s costume has been mis-colored as was frequently done early in his history. His shirt has been colored red and he appears to be wearing shorts and boots as leggings have been printed flesh color. The familiar “S” shield symbol on chest remains unfinished, giving Superman a slightly generic look. A very important historical piece in the history of Superman in newspapers, as the strip ran from 1939 until 1966, being renewed in 1977 through 1983. Right blank margin edge not affecting image area has some unevenness as it was removed from a newspaper and there is a .75” chip to bottom left-hand corner. Light age tanning at margins. VF. Rare.
