Item Description
10" long Krewe of Rex issued gold-washed brass letter opener. The term "krewe" refers to an organization that puts on parades or balls for the Carnival season and is best known for its association w/New Orleans Mardi Gras. The theme for the 1910 Mardi Gras was "The Freaks Of Fable" and head of letter opener features crowned Rex king w/raised "Rex" name and "1910" at tip. Every year, King Rex distributes a favor to krewe members and guests, this letter opener but one example of the many varieties of Rex krewe favors. Tip shows some scattered wear from use w/some scattered aging. Fine/VF overall.
