Item Description
22x28" thin cardboard poster w/"San Antonio" union bug at lower left. Multiple slogans including below Lyndon B. Johnson "Son Of Texas Friend Of Spanish Speaking People Everywhere." Right of JFK is "Henry B. Gonzales" running for "State Senator" who was at this point known for his record setting 36 hour filibuster in the Texas legislature that was successful in killing eight of ten racial segregation bills designed to circumvent the ruling in Brown v. Board of Education. A less than 1" separation at top right corner repaired w/archival tape on reverse and a 3.25" vertical tear at bottom left of center affecting the "T" in "Vote". Reverse has damp stain and moderate toning that is invisible from front. Technically VG but displaying VF. A rare survivor of the Texas elements. In 1960 Gonzales was tasked by JFK to organize "Viva Kennedy" clubs throughout the country and in 1961 he would win a Congressional special election becoming the first Hispanic Representative from Texas. An outstanding and historic 1960 campaign artifact that will frame beautifully.
