Item Description
Lot of four buttons, ranging in size from .75" to 1.25" dia. and issued 1930s-1950s. Pair of 1.25" dia. cello buttons were issued as part of a 1930s "New York Evening Journal" newspaper contest and feature serial numbers as well as contest-specific backpapers. Rims are marked w/Offset Gravure Corp. name. One button features full body image of Popeye punching while other is portrait image. Both has some lt. surface wear, but neither is offensive. Glossy and VF overall. 7/8" dia. cello button has "Popeye The Sailor - A Paramount Picture" text and 1935 KFS copyright. Parisian Novelty Co. maker's name on rim. These buttons were typically issued w/ theater imprint, this example has none. Bright, glossy and NM. .75" dia. litho button showing Popeye throwing a punch w/red star accents. This is button #37 in the set and has tiny "'Thimble Theater' By Segar" text below. Evenly aged w/some scattered wear. VF. Scarce.
