3-1/8x5-1/8" cover w/three cent Washington bust stamp hand canceled w/an "X" and a "Belleville N. J, Sep 10" stamp. 1851. vertical fold at center affecting the neatly hand inscribed text "Stone". Reverse has "Sarah Grimke 1851" inscribed at top left and a small hole where the wax seal was removed at center. Moderate age toning and handling. Fine. An interesting artifact illustrating the connection between the early anti-slavery and women's rights movements.
