Item Description
7/8" with W&H back paper used in 1898. Front shows him flexing his arm muscle with text "Swoboda For Health & Strength." The lower right has a very faint trace of age stain on his chest and shoulder but hardly showing. Also, barely showing are a tiny pair of 1/16" cello cracks in the same area. Vast majority of the surface remains clean and glossy. Swoboda, from Vienna, was the only man to lift a barbell of 400 lbs above his head in a two-hand jerk. He was a contemporary of Eugene Sandow who was included in a W&H 1897 button set titled "Celebrated Men & Women" but what makes this 1898 button a "first" is that it was made to promote Swoboda.  Only example we've seen. VG condition but still displays glossy and VF.
