Item Description
Sizes are 7/8" to 1.75". Group begins with real photo rarity from the WWI era showing young boy in uniform which includes a metal insignia on his hat. Text is "U.S. Boy Scouts First, Last & All The Time." There is pinpoint dirt speck trapped under the celluloid by the first letter of "Scouts". Second is from the 1930s showing an illustration of a boy scout, unsigned, but by Norman Rockwell. Third is the button issued for "National Jamboree Boy Scouts Of America/Washington/1937" with center panel reading "I'm Going". Previous item has Bastian paper and this item has Bastian back stamp. Next is 1.5" with W&H paper noticeably stained around the outer perimeter. The front of the button also has brown stain around the outer edges and going inward anywhere from 1/8" to ¼" but without individual spotting and still with exc. color and gloss. Pictured is powder horn along with six other symbols of the outdoors and the initials "S.D.B." standing for Sons Of Daniel Boone, later named Boy Pioneers Of America, which was a youth program developed by Daniel Beard with its tenants based on the American frontiersman. This button was likely used when they participated in the 1907 Jamestown Exposition. When Beard joined the Boy Scouts of America in 1910 as one of their National Scout Commissioners, this S.D.P. group was merged into the fledgling B.S.A. A rare button and only the second we've seen in five decades. Last and a bit more recent but also a rarity is 1.75" reading "Souvenir Boy Scout Circus." C. 1950. Some pinpoint dark dots on extreme outer edge and a small dark mark at the flag center but blending so as to barely show. Full gloss. Fine. The first three buttons in the group are Exc. to Mint. Also see WWI section for additional Scout items, #814-815.
