Item Description
9x12" program for mid-1941 gala St. Louis performance to benefit pre-World War II pro-war entry/anti-Hitler organization Fight For Freedom Committee To Defend America. This "Fun To Be Free" show featured speakers, patriotic music and a variety show featuring stars including Humphrey Bogart, Linda Darnell, Burgess Meredith and others. Apparently this was a national touring show in the summer of 1941. Cover of program features pre-war Disney Studios specialty art depiction of "The Spirit Of '76" w/Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck and Goofy. This is an image we have not seen before and differs greatly from the one used after US involvement in the war began (which featured the characters dressed in colonial outfits w/real drum and 13-Star flag as opposed to "V" for victory flag). This program cover is most likely the only use of this particular image. Program shows moderate handling wear w/several pinch crease to spine and creases to covers. VG overall.
