Item Description
2-1/8" two-sided cello with top slot for rwb narrow fabric for attachment now gone. Front is real photo of Col. J.M. Stotsenberg, First Nebraska Regiment U.S. Volunteers. He was killed in action April 23, 1899 leading his regiment at Quingua, Philippines. Real photo (no dot pattern) captioned "Nor Shall His Glory Be Forget While Fame Her Record Keeps". Reverse "8" design is comprised of two Spanish Cockades worn on the hats of Spanish soldiers and considered a war trophy if captured. The text on reverse and date corresponds to the day they arrived by special train home in Lincoln, Nebraska Sept. 14, 1899 with this item produced for their reception. Very slight scuff on front edge at 10-11 o'clock. Rare and VF.
