Item Description
Each is a 1-5/8" litho with curl text "Pat. Applied For Evans Novelty Co. Chicago". These were sold in stores c. 1942 from a display card. Being colorful and mechanical they were very popular. First version is on the left. Visually, the first has the actual string coming from a hole above the tree limb and going down into the open slot. The end of the string comes out at the tree base. On the back, Hitler's head and upper body is a die-cut piece of metal attached to a thin moveable wire. On the second version, the entire string over the tree limb is printed and the actual string is attached to a metal lever at far left. On the back, the wire is replaced with a flat moveable metal piece whose upper segment is formed as Hitler's head and shoulders. Both working and Exc. with the first version quite scarce. Mark Treitel Collection.
