Item Description
13-5/8x15". Gubernatorial coattail broadside advertising a "Caucus" at the "Town Hall" on "October 2d" to choose delegates to the Congressional and Senatorial Conventions. John Albion Andrew was running for Governor of Massachusetts and served earlier in 1860 as a RNC delegate. He is also known for raising money for the defense of abolitionist John Brown. John Z. Goodrich was running for Lieutenant Gov. Both candidates rode Lincoln's coattails to a victory. The Dorchester neighborhood of Boston, MA had a population just under 10,000 in 1860. Thin paper mounted in the distant past to a piece of thin cardboard. Obvious heavy wear including holes, edge losses and tears. Just Good. While the mounting is not ideal it is likely the sole reason that this 1860 Lincoln artifact survived. An excellent candidate for conservation by a skilled paper conservator. This is likely the only surviving example of this historic political campaign broadside.
