Item Description
21" tall oilcloth doll w/felt hat and pants w/oilcloth jacket and cotton piping. Printed text on front of body (under coat/pants) reads "Boob McNutt - Copyright 1923 - Star Company- Registered U.S. Patent Office." Doll shows obvious aging and scattered moderate wear/dust soiling. 1" split to front bottom edge of coat, which shows wear. Piping on side of head also shows obvious wear. VG overall. Doll comes w/later .75" dia. tin litho pinback button from numbered 1930s Western Theater Cartoon & Comic Characters set of 50 (that was not issued w/doll). This is button No. 29 and features Boob McNutt portrait. Button shows scattered wear and some aging along right. Fine. Best known for his "inventions," cartoonist Rube Goldberg produced the "Boob McNutt" comic strip between 1915 and 1934. Very little merchandise was produced and this doll of Goldberg's character is rare and the first we've offered in our 51 years.
