Item Description
2.25" double ribbon has three threads holding vertical safety pin to reverse. A red cord loop and a metal loop (tiny surface marks and a bit out of round) suspend a 1.75" tall very fancy award that tests as 14K, about 8 grams without the fabric. Front with crossed rifles reads "Baltimore, MD, U.S.A. Feb. 10th, 1887". Reverse text "Thatcher, Primrose & West/Season 1886/87/Hadj Nahfoud Cherif/An Artist And Gentleman". This minstrel troupe was famous for putting black face actors into high society pursuits such as fox hunting, lawn tennis and yacht racing. The troupe owners became known as "The Millionaires of Minstrelsy".
