Item Description
Bronze version is 4.5 tall while white metal version has larger ring and is 4.75" tall. Both hangers read "Brooklyn" with back of bronze hanger names maker Lutz & Spaeth 92 Fulton St. N.Y. Fronts of oval medals read "Battle Of Long Island/Aug. 27th/1776" with small "City of Brooklyn" logo below. Reverses "Maryland Memorial Day/Aug. 27th/1776/1895" plus monument and MD state seal. Small splits on side edges and base of each ribbon but at least 50% fabric intact to securely hold the ring joined to the medal. Ribbons are good and metal parts are Exc. This was the first major battle of the Revolutionary War to take place after Independence was declared July 4, 1776. The American troops panicked, but a stand by 400 Marylanders prevented a larger part of the army being lost.
