Item Description
"Popeye The Sailor Man" is 7.5x10" hardcover published in England by Birn Brothers Ltd. ©KFS, c. 1930s. Thick paper pages w/illustrations, comic panel stories and one full color image plate showing Popeye, Olive Oyl, Wimpy and Eugene the Jeep. Book shows moderate corner tip wear and scattered edge wear. Pages are cream in color w/slightly darker margins. Fine overall. Most likely the first British Popeye book. Comes w/"Popeye Meets His Rival" storybook, a 8-5/8x11.5" stiff cardboard Whitman hardcover, ©1937 KFS. Front cover has art of Popeye holding flowers looking a bit disgruntled as he sees Olive Oyl and another man seated on couch. Back cover shows Popeye laughing w/same man w/two black eyes and stars above his head. Book has 48 pages w/nice art throughout which appears to be done by creator Segar. Cover has some corner foxing w/some handling creases. Interior has aged ink inscription and pages have tanned w/age. Fine/VF overall.
