Item Description
13.5x18". 1865. Depicting the Capture of Jefferson Davis Entitled, "The Last Ditch Of The Chivalry, Or A President In Petticoats." Davis, dressed in drag and wearing spurred boots while carrying a sack of gold, is pursued by union troops one of which states "It's No Use Trying That Shift Jeff, We See Your Boots!' A .5" and 2.25" horizontal tear at right center the longest of which just affects the image, damp stains around perimeter and moderate even age toning. Just VG. Rare. The majority of these defects are contained to the margin and would frame out. This historic and humorous print is an excellent candidate for professional conservation.
