Item Description
Sizes 7/8" to 1.5" plus one 2.25" pocket mirror c. 1946. There are 29 different buttons, one mirror and, in the bottom two rows, six duplicate buttons. Three of these dupes have small age or fade but the 29 different buttons in the collection are NM to Mint condition and this is the largest Buster button collection we've ever offered. Collection begins with the rare and earliest known Buster button c. 1902 when he first appeared on the comic pages of the New York Herald. This is an apparent club button inscribed "Young Folks" and has a Baltimore Badge back paper. Next are the  two beautiful color varieties of the Bread button followed by two bread rarities with imprints for "Longfellow School" and "Irvington School". Row 2 has 3 of the stunning color buttons in the 1.5" size. Row 3 begins with the earliest (c.1904) ad button from the Brown Shoe Co. This is followed by six different buttons used shortly after 1904 and distributed during company sponsored tours comprised of "little people" and a dog who portrayed Buster and his canine friend at theatres, department stores and shoes stores across America. Row 4 has the earliest (c. 1904-1912) five buttons advertising Hose Supporters followed in Row 5 by a c. 1920 series of six. Row 6 has four buttons from the 1930s and ends with a c. 1980s logo revival button. A great collection that took much time and effort to assemble.
