Item Description
7" long. Silk. Issued for the celebration of the American Railway Union leader's release after a serving a six month term for mail obstruction stemming from the 1894 Pullman Railroad strike. Additional text reads "Friday, November 22, 1895." It was during this jail sentence that Debs committed to Socialism. Addressing a crowd, estimated at over 100,000, in Chicago he implored them to use their right to vote to restore the Republic to how it was "Before Corporations Knew The Price Of Judges, Legislators And Public Officials As Certainly As Armour Knows The Price Of Pork And Mutton." Minor fraying along lower edge. Moderate age toning of cream silk and pin holes in top center field. VF. An important and highly historical artifact from a pivotal moment in Debs' career.
