Item Description
Huge and impressive 31.5x42" self-framed cardboard photo display shows close-up portrait of Jack Dempsey (1895-1983), an American professional boxer who competed from 1914 to 1927, and reigned as the world heavyweight champion from 1919 to 1926. After retiring from boxing, Dempsey opened "Jack Dempsey's Restaurant" in New York City in 1935. The restaurant's name was later changed to "Jack Dempsey's Broadway Restaurant" when it relocated to Times Square on Broadway. It remained open until 1974. This immense display was most likely from that establishment and shows close-up portrait of Dempsey in suit and tie. His facsimile signature appears at right. 1940s. Woodgrain paper covering on "frame" shows moderate scattered edge wear w/some surface rippling. Corners of inner portrait have small holes from wall mounting. Fine overall. Rare and first we've offered.
