Item Description
40.75x79.75" for the 1954 re-release of the 1949 Columbia Pictures serial directed by Lambert Hillyer and starring Lewis Wilson as Batman/Bruce Wayne, Douglas Croft as Robin/Dick Grayson, J. Carrol Naish and Shirley Patterson. Great stone lithography features nearly full body images of Batman and Robin at top, Batman brandishing a raygun w/"The Mighty Ace Of Courage Is On The Screen!" text. Bottom features great scene of the Batplane dropping bombs w/scuttled submarine in bkg. Foreground shows Patterson, Naish and one of his henchmen. As w/all three sheets, this poster is pieced together from three pieces, and margins have been trimmed, but this in no way affects images, which line up nicely. Originally folded, poster has been linen-mounted and has moderate scattered restoration to fold lines and fold crease intersections, w/more moderate restoration across red "Batman" title, Batman's thigh and armpit areas. Small scattered tears/creases along fold lines w/small splits to fold lines at edges. 1.25x3.25" margin piece replaced/repainted. As previously mentioned, margins have been trimmed, resulting in some slightly uneven edges. Bottom corners have staple/pin holes and top margin has 1.25" tear at left. VG overall, but would make for nice framed display. We have never seen an original release three sheet sold at auction, making this both a rare poster and a rare chance to add one to your collection.
