Item Description
Lot of four 9.5x12.75" magazines, each published and distributed in the UK, 1932-1933. Lot includes three issues of "Film Weekly" and single issue of "Picturegoer." While magazines feature typical film content of the era, each has feature(s) on "King Kong" as they were published just prior to or after the original release date of April 7, 1933. "Film Weekly" contents include - Oct. 28, 1932 issue published before "King Kong" was released and refers to film by it working title - "Kong." Photo collage feature includes image of director Ernest B. Schoedsack and actress Fay Wray. March 10, 1933 issue features great two-page spread about "The Latest 'Shudder' From Hollywood," w/images of Kong (including fighting Pteranodon) and stars Robert Armstrong and Wray. April 21, 1933 issue features two-page behind-the-scenes article about the film, w/photos of the lifesize Kong model and sound design for the film. Additional full page ad for the film noting it was "Smashing All Records!" April 15, 1933 issue of "Picturegoer" features two-page behind-the-scenes article on how the film was made, including photos showing Kong atop Empire State Building and size comparison photo of actual gorillas stacked up beside Kong image. Issues have scattered handling wear/aging w/pinch creases to spine and are Fine to VF overall w/Exc. content. All Kong content shown online. Scarce issued w/exceptional content for the Kong collector.
