Item Description
The Veteran's Firemen's Association New York was founded Sept. 1884. Both of these badges were likely made within ten years of that date. First is smaller badge in brass plated white metal 1.5" tall showing early pumper plus initials "VFA". Reverse carries name of NY firm who specialized in fire badges C. G. Braxmar. Reverse has tiny loss of thin brass plating. Exc. Second is large 2.25" tall and almost 1/8" thick solid brass badge with reverse "T" hinge holding vertical pin with swivel "C" catch locking device. Reverse center carries serial number "24" below name "R. W. McWhinney/Jackson". Ornate front has incised lettering and high relief details including hose encircling an early pumper. NM.
