Item Description
21.5x26 cloth flag professionally framed to 27.5x32.5". Canton features Great Star configuration of the 26 stars arranged to form a large five pointed star. Faint age toning in cream fields. Otherwise colors are extremely bold and fresh. Exc. Almost certainly the finest example extant. Beautifully framed and ready for immediate display. Collins lists a matching Polk design in Threads Of History but this Clay is unlisted. We note that the listed Polk flag features a badly smeared hand stenciled coattail addition while this Clay example was clearly made w/intent by the designers based on the matching font used for "Henry Clay" and "Joseph Markle" coupled w/the placement of "And." Traditional thinking ranks Polk material above Clay but we'd argue this is the premier artifact between these "matching" flags. A rare opportunity to obtain an investment grade pre-civil war political campaign flag in outstanding condition.
