Item Description
48x57" hand painted on heavy cotton w/glazed finish. Mounted to original wooden rod w/metal eyelets at each end and having two brass grommets in lower corners. Likely produced between 1876-1880. Eagle w/wingtips pointed up, beak facing left clutching a banner reading "E Pluribus Unum" w/13 stars in a cloud above. Bears a strong resemblance to the seal used by President Hayes. Renewed interest driven by the American centennial caused increase production of this type of patriotic material during this era. Light wear w/typical crackling of paint throughout and two small holes at top right and left. Two small separations along bottom edge. VF. Professionally mounted for shadow box display to 50.5x60.5". An impressive and rare patriotic banner that will stand out even in the most advanced collections.
